March 09 Courses

For the first time, all my classes this term will have a theme and that theme is “drawing inspiration from Bahrain”. In this loveliest of months here on the island, I want everyone to really open their eyes to our local environment and find a visual expression for what they see, hopefully looking deeper than the obvious sun, sand, sea, and mosque clichés.

Courses are usually held at my studio in Awali. This term “The Painting Studio” will be in the AAA compound, and the Drawing course will meet first in my studio and then at a number of different locations around the island. Materials for the first class and beverages and snacks are included.

Creativity Workshop- A great chance for people who have to work in the day to come out at night and CREATE! If the group agrees, I’d like to get back into acrylic painting and collage work, working form YOUR OWN photographs of our local land and cityscape. 4 weeks, March 2, 16, 23 and 30 for BD40 for 1 person or 75 for couples, with snacks, wine, your first canvas and paints included

The Painting Studio isn’t really a class. It’s a group of painters who meet to work on their own projects in a supportive and stimulating environment with, I hope, a bit of inspiration, guidance and occasional tuition from me. We will be meeting in the large light space at the AAA compound this term and may be doing some work “en plein aire”. 5 weeks, March 3, 10, 17, 24, and 31. 30BD.

 Drawing inspiration from Bahrain,  using DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY , as well as pencil, pen and ink and if you like, watercolour, we will work in a “reportage” style in sketchbooks. We will work outdoors, at the dhow harbour, Al Areen, Old Muharaq, and in one or two local gardens. (If the weather isn’t great, we’ll work from photos) Basic drawing skills, including sighting, tone, perspective and composition will be covered. This will be a challenging but very rewarding experience for beginners and more seasoned artists alike, and a great opportunity see the island and collect subject matter for future painting.. 5 weeks starting Feb 18, Mar 4, 11, 18, and 25 BD 45. (or 4 weeks from March 4, 38bd )

Acrylics Workshop: Learn the basics of acrylic painting, colour theory, and composition with a traditional approach to still life and landscape, and quickly progress to expressing your own creativity using the subject matter of your choice. You can work as independently as you choose, or follow the lessons that I set. Have fun and break the rules! Acrylics are the ideal medium to let yourself go!
